Day 4 week 1 = pancakes and maple syrup = activity 2 SLJ

For this activity you are asked to choose one of your favourite foods. On your blog, write the name of your favourite food and then tell us how to make it. You may need to ask a family member, friend or Google (!) for help, if you do not normally make this food for yourself.

Onigiri

A great tasteful rice triangles. It's quite simple making these.

1. steam plain rice.
2. wrap the rice around tuna.
3.Wrap the rice with seaweed.

And that's your onigiri made. Enjoy a japanese recipe.

Kia ora Eden,

Yum! I love Japanese food and onigiri in particular. I actually had the chance to live in Japan for a year back in 2006-2007 and I loved it! I had never been to Asia before moving to Japan so it was a little bit of a shock to the system but I quickly grew to feel really at home in my adopted hometown of Nagano City.

When I was living there I had a roommate named Mel who was from Dunedin, New Zealand. She and I became really good friends and we're still friends to this day. We would often cook together in our flat in Nagano and we sometimes made Japanese-inspired food, however, we had such amazing restaurants close by that we usually went out if we wanted to have sushi or onigiri. Do you ever made sushi or onigiri at your house?

I hope that you'll have time to continue the journey with us this summer and to share more delicious recipes and cool activity posts with us.

In the meantime, have a great summer holiday!

All the best,
Rachel (a member of the SLJ blog commenting team)

Hola rachel

Your roommate seems really cool and I may be going back to japan. Have you ever gone to shinjuku? (I think thats how its spelt) It's a really nice area and yes sometimes we do make sushi and onigiri. Also what was your favorite restaurant? I like a sushi train restaurant. They give you shaved ice with flavored syrup for a desert. It shocked me for how good it tasted. If you ever think of going back to japan, maybe try searching for this sushi train restaurant. It's always good to try something new :D (especially food)

Hola Eden,

I completely agree with you that it is always good to try something new! I will definitely keep an eye out for the sushi train restaurant. Here in New Zealand I try to go out to Japanese restaurants every once in awhile (when I've saved my pennies!) to enjoy an authentic meal. One of my favourite restaurants is just down the street from office. It is called 'Tanto' and has a really nice variety of traditional Japanese dishes. Yum!

Hope that you have had a great start to 2019.

Cheers!
Rachel
